Notes - Education committee meeting 01/25/2015

Present:  Rajdeep Singh, Amardeep Singh, Amarpreet Singh, Jaspal Singh

Absent: Satiandra Singh

 

·         Successful Basketball event reviewed

·         Need consider furnishing new classrooms

·         New classroom Blinds – check with board

·         Cabinets requeseted

·         Instruments need storage

·         Boards – to write on 

·         Television – 60” versus Projector being requested for new classroom

·         Gurmat school would like to request permission from board to do above, but funds from parents/School

·         Bookshelves with Locks

·         Move storage items (cups, plates) away from Classroom

·         Locks on New Classrooms  needed

·         Calendar rest of Year

o   Feb 21st

o   March 8th – Maryland

o   March 22nd – picnic scheduled

o   March 25th Jewish kids having a class in the evening

o   Parent-Teacher Meeting – Feb 8th

o   April 25th – Vaisakhi Melaa and Evening Program

Punjabi School updates for 2014-15 session

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa,
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Punjabi School will be starting next Sunday with assembly at 9:15AM. Since there will be Akhand Sahib Path, assembly will be downstairs in the Langar hall.

Thank you all who have volnteered to help lead the different functions of the school. Education committee will be working closely with them. As a quick update about these different activities and volunteers based on our last meeting:
1) Registration and upkeeep of financial spreadsheet - Raminder Kaur
PLEASE, PLEASE give your regisgtration forms with appropriate bheta (suggested $50/child) to her as soon as possible. She will have the hard copies of the forms available on Sunday morning. The registration forms were also mailed earlier by Jaspal veerji through the gurdwara email group.

2) IT issues: Amardeep Singh and Dharmender Sethi - Yahoo group, Whats app group, Blog Website and integration with gurdwara website
Please make sure you get emails through the above punjabi school group. Amardeep veerji, will be there on Sunday with his computer to help out those who are still having problems.
Also, Sethi veerji will be helping in making Whatsapp group if you have a smart phone and willing to accept text messages. It will help in communicating last minute things such as cancellation of classes and some important announcements will be sent on email and text. Please write your mobile number and email on the registration form for these things or give it directly to them.

3) Communications about the school: Jaspal Singh

4) Saturday Program: Pawanjit Singh
We will try to acheive 6-7 Saturday evening programs through the school year. Pawanjit veerji is going to be working on the calendar, including assigning activities to the kids. He will be sending it out to the group soon. It will also be posted on

5) Volunteer activities: Suneet Kaur. She is going to work with our youth representatives, Harneet Kaur and Chanpreet Singh

Shabads for January 4th

Please refer to Rajdeep veerji's email about the schedule for the children's January 4th Gurpurab program. Please contact Bhai Sahib if your child is to prepare a shabad and play tabla.  Bhai Sahib is aware and has been trying to match the kids' shabads with the theme and the skill levels.

Need and concern for more kids to be included in the school has been recognized for some time, but this is counter-balanced by other issues:
1.
Competitive issues for space – if we get many more kids wewill have even a harder time than already exists in finding classroom space.
2.
Concern that some kids/parents don’t maintain involvement unless trulyinterested.  Most of the parents that are interested already are coming; not sure it’s worth pushing others to come more than has already been done.

Reinforced that a lot of great ideas came from the Educational Meeting and strong desire for Education committee members to stay involved and that the meeting 2 weeks ago was simply to make sure we are all in agreement regarding the best ways to move forward.
